National Day of Mourning
On 22 January 2026, it was 39 days since the deadliest terrorist attack on Australian soil. 15 innocent people were taken away in one horror night on Bondi Beach.
Across the country the Jewish community – and Australian people – observed the National Day of Mourning.
On the Gold Coast we came together as dusk fell on one of our own iconic beaches to light one of 15 pillars of light being lit across the nation – one for each victim.
Together with our friends from Gold Coast Hebrew Congregation and Chabad Gold Coast, we join elected representatives in proving that unity is more powerful than hate, evil and ignorance.
Light can defeat darkness, but that can only happen if we help that light shine.
